Who is Jesus Christ? >open Study Questions

Jesus Christ is God. He possesses all the godly characteristics. He is Life.1 He is Self Existent.2 He is Truth.3 He is Eternal.4 He is the Second Person of the Trinity.5

Jesus Christ has always existed. His preexistence along with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit confirms His deity. He had no beginning. He is the Eternal Son of the Eternal Father.6

It is Jesus Christ who was the active agent in creation. Without a doubt God the Father and God the Holy Spirit had part in bringing the universe into being, but it is expressly stated that Christ created all things.7

Then the second person of the Trinity became incarnate (or took on human flesh, and came to earth). While Christ is in every sense truly God, He is in every sense truly man. For a time He laid aside His glory (though not His deity) in order to accomplish the facts of salvation for us.8

The Incarnation was accomplished by the miracle of the virgin birth. This means that Christ was born by the Virgin Mary without the aid of a human father. God alone was His Father.9

The earthly life of Jesus Christ covered a period of approximately 33 years. These years, and especially the years of His public ministry, were filled with godly wisdom, words, and deeds, which accomplished God the Father’s will and proved His deity. Never has a man spoken as Christ did, and never have things been done as Christ did them. His life is absolutely unique in history.

The focal point of Christ’s life is His sacrificial death. As had been prophesied, Jesus Christ was taken by wicked people and hung on a cross of shame. By allowing this, He became the Lamb of God which takes away the sins of the world.10

The story of Christ is found in the four Gospel accounts: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Each is important in presenting the same Christ from different men who saw and knew Him. Each gives important perspectives.

The Resurrection of Christ is certainly a unique fact of history. Early on the first day of the week after being dead and buried in a borrowed grave for a period of three days, our Lord Jesus Christ arose from the dead. This fact is very important, proving conclusively that Christ is indeed the Son of God, and the Savior of the world. It also proves that His death is accepted by God Himself as the one means by which guilty sinners may be redeemed (bought back), or in other words, saved.11
