Power of Prayer >open Study Questions

Prayer is communication. The disciple learns to communicate with God as his first responsibility. The "prayer closet" is a constant and common place for the earnest disciple of the Lord, and for seeking His will. Prayer has no boundaries. It is the love, life, and action of the believer.

God wants to answer what we ask in prayer. There are two areas of great encouragement to us. First, there is the ministry of the Lord Jesus as He sits at the right hand of the Father. He is there to present our prayers and petitions before the throne of grace. Secondly, the ministry of the indwelling Holy Spirit includes the intercession which He alone can make on our behalf.1

The model prayer should be learned by any serious believer.2 In this prayer we learn to address God in a proper way, show respect for His Name, commit ourselves to Him, ask for His provision, ask for His forgiveness, ask for his protection, and desire His rule over us. Prayer is addressed and closed in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.3

The Bible mentions four main areas of prayer communication. There is supplication, which simply means to ask humbly and reverently. There is prayer to communicate our needs and desires. There is intercession, which is to pray on behalf of others. And there is thanksgiving that is being grateful for God's blessings.4

Prayer is conversation with God. Any meaningful conversation involves both talking and listening. Praying then becomes the experience of getting our heart and mind in complete harmony with God. Then we, as Scripture says, 'give thanks and make our requests known to God'.5 Prayer develops into an attitude as well as an action.5 Disciples live by prayer and the power of prayer.
