Power of the Word >open Study Questions

The disciple is someone who finds power in the Word of God. He then claims and uses that power as he prepares to share it with others. There are two kinds of WORD received from God. First, there is LOGOS which means a personal title, as in "the Word was made flesh" (the Incarnation of the Jesus Christ). Second, there is RHEMA, which means that which is spoken or written. Both are direct, holy, and from God. It is not one or the other, but both which confirm and compliment the other.1

When God invaded humanity in the form and work of the Lord Jesus, salvation occurred through the sinless sacrifice of the Son of God by the grace of God. This is Logos.

The written testament of a loving God for fallen man, and the recorded word of the Holy Spirit for the believer is Rhema. The Bible with it's message of Good News and life changing content is our written word. When God speaks by His voice to the believer in this time it is also the Rhema word from God. God has inspired both Logos and Rhema.

Only an uninspired disciple ever considers for long if the Bible is inspired. "All scripture is inspired of God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work".2 When we belong to the Kingdom of God we must accept God's Word as our instruction. The disciple of Christ Jesus must be taught, led, corrected, reproved, and trained, by the leading of the Holy Spirit's through both the Logos and Rhema word of God. By doing so, we see the contrast of the old life, the old way, the old truth torn down, and a new, better, and more perfect way unfold. It is here that we have our STANDARD.

Everyone must have a point of reference for information and action. The disciple finds his in the Power of the Word of God. It must be a balance of Logos and Rhema. In the Bible we finds the words of Truth to digest that will guide and teach us. Further, it is God's voice that gives us Truth to guide and teach us. This Power from the Word is in turn given to other faithful men and women.3

Jesus our Lord is our Strength and Power. He is learned by the indwelling Holy Spirit, and the Power of the Word. The Power of the Word causes change to come to the heart and mind, and gives instruction in Godly living, parenting, marriage, ministry, philosophy, values, ethics, and morals.
